This year marks a very special anniversary indeed for the International Federation of Bodybuilders – and guess where they are coming to celebrate it?

This year the IFBB celebrates its 70th birthday; and it turns out that 2016 will also become a landmark year for Kuwait, as Oxygen Gym will be playing host to the country’s first ever IFBB Pro contest!

IFBB History

In 1946, brothers Joe and Ben Weider founded the International Federation of Bodybuilders, and 70 years later the IFBB is still going strong. Having started out with just two members – USA and Canada – there are now almost 200 countries and islands that make up the IFBB spanning across Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean and of course, the Middle East. With shows and expos held throughout the year and all across the world, the IFBB has become the key name in bodybuilding, with men and women working out tirelessly at the gym to earn their IFBB Pro Card.

Mr. Olympia

Perhaps the most legendary of all IFBB-organised events is the annual Mr. Olympia contest held in Las Vegas every September. The brainchild of Joe Weider, Mr. Olympia was created in 1965 to celebrate the sport he loved. It has since become the pinnacle achievement in bodybuilding with only 13 men ever lifting the Sandow trophy in 50 years. More recently Mr. Olympia has expanded to include a women’s division and a physique contest, proving that the IFBB is still as innovative and inspirational now as when it was created 70 years ago.
