Aesthetics is one of the key reasons people work out. For a lean, clean, naturally muscular body, look no further than calisthenics.

The definition of calisthenics; “Gymnastic exercises designed to develop muscular tone and promote physical well-being” may not sound very macho, but the results are far from feminine. If anything, calisthenics proves you don’t always need heavy weights or the gym to workout but you still need steely determination and die-hard determination.

Exercises such as pull-ups are a perfect place to start for your upper body; there are several different types such as biceps and triceps, and wide grip for your back. For this version, your grip should be on the outside of your shoulder and you raise yourself to where your chest is in line with your hands.

For the core, calisthenics like sit ups, crunches and plank are effective but you can go further with the use of a well-placed bar. For the bottom half, try dangling leg raises where you hang from a bar and raise your knees towards your chest in a tucking motion for a series of reps. You also need strong arms for this as you will be hanging for some time.

Stretching and yoga are great ways to improve your muscle suppleness and speed up your recovery time, they will give the ability to try more extreme exercises and push yourself further with your training.

So if you want to try something different and want to achieve a natural-looking physique, try calisthenics.
